Unique project at EU VET Providers Meeting
The Unique project was selected for the “Platform of European Associations of VET Providers” Meeting of the Directorate-General for Employment Social Affairs and Inclusion Expert Group that was organized online on the 17th of June 2021. Being proposed as a possible candidate by EVBB, the European Association of Institutes for Vocational Training, which AKMI S.A. is an institutional member of, Unique project was eventually selected for the session dedicated to Gender Balance in VET.
Ms Victoria Topalidi, Project Manager of AKMI S.A., gave an overview of the project and presented the preliminary findings that came across the desk and field research in the participating countries regarding the current status of anti-LGBTIQ discrimination within the VET environment. Also, she described some of the practices that had been identified, within the UNIQUE framework, for the creation of a safe and inclusive place for education while she highlighted the key outcomes that the partnership had envisioned for this project.
The project’s main idea regarding the development of LGBTIQ-friendly training materials for VET Teachers/Trainers and the delivery of Peer Training Activities where trained VET Teachers-Ambassadors of the project will train their colleagues and spread the word about our project to the teaching community of their countries was embraced with enthusiasm and great interest both by the side of the hosts and the participants. It also sparked a vivid discussion about its potential to have a strong impact at the national, regional and EU levels through the targeted consultations with relevant stakeholders, one of the key activities of the project.
